Follow up to the dream machine post: Clarification + I'm blown ...
I have read *every* *single* *thread* I can find on Deja that even mentions VGAsave, and tried all these things. I have Googled. I have called ATI. I have called Albatron and emachines. I've even called Microsoft. It seems like tons of people are having this kind of problem, but no one seems able to fix it - or, if

Well, it sure looks nice..
Any information anyone would have would be appreciated. Try turning off ALL power mgmt. Also, you need to stop the rebooting so you can read the "STOP" message and find out what is causing the problem. You say you have already done this, but if that were so, it wouldn't *reboot* but rather would stop with a screen

I would slave a 2nd HD in and copy away but if you don't have one handy.... Or get flash card reader(usb) and borrow cards from all your friends cameras. When I boot into Safe Mode, I can access the CD drive to read CDs, but I can't write to the CD. Apparently that support is not loaded in Safe Mode.

MacOSX supports 802.11b cards, I have one in my powerbook. That's nice - no one doubts OS X supports 802.11b; where's the card for my B&W G3? However, if you'll think about it, ask yourself how what you're experiencing is possible. Granted, going to a 40GB 7200 RPM HDD helped a lot, but it's still darned pokey

After reading all the rest of the posts, I have your final answer. Don't buy the Compaq, don't buy an HP, don't buy a Dell, don't buy a Gateway and don't buy an e-machine. If you have 100 computers this may be a factor; if you have one its not going to make any difference except for religious arguing.

If it does you can load an Audio cd into the drive, plug in some headphones and press the play button and see if you hear HI: I have one of those "EMachines", it is fairly new, but it seems that I am having a problem now with the CD-ROM. No "reading between the lines" is necessary. You said "while offering mobility and still be able to read old floppy disks." Why do you point this out if it is of no value to you? Because the drive does it. I also pointed out that even if the drive didn't do this I would still have bought one.
